As you can see, this issue is an old one and if you recall the early "Deskttop Publishing" days it is why folk flocked to PostScript Printers. That way you could set what you wanted to see on the printer and it was consistent (as much as possible) from system to system.

Basically need to edit documents, then email them to people.

The documents then, of course, need to open correctly again in Microsoft Office.

What is the best app for the ipad to edit documents.

Note: I don't make the purchasing decisions. I have to work with whats available.

But you have to define "best" better. The edited documents do email and open.

It might be your best option is to switch to a Surface RT (which has a limited version of MS Office) or a full Windows 8 Pro tablet (on which you can install the full MS Office). It all depends on your exact needs.

In short, Microsoft Office Compatibility.

I've encountered too many compatibility issues with people using non standard Office Programs. (i.e. OpenOffice)

Kees_B, the weblink seems to recommend Office HD and Polaris for retaining Office Compatibility.

If you try a lot of Excel macros and VBA programming they tend to back peddle on the claims. We still encounter the printer metrics issue.

The Pages you can get on the iPad is great, allows editing and Numbers works fine but your requirement likely is beyond what most want.

I can't find a clear advantage over a common laptop. Yes, I use tablets and at the office we are porting apps but something odd is going on with Windows 8 RT.

What do you mean? Does the Windows 8 RT Office 2013 have compatibility issues, with docs, and spreadsheets?

In the past I would pick up Visual Studio and publish my apps. Windows RT as it stands today only allows us to get apps from the Microsoft Store. This is truly an odd turn of events and products.

Since my apps are mostly industrial in nature and we may not have internet access to the Microsoft Store in all areas, how to install our apps without going to Microsoft or the internet.

It's a very strange machine, system and as the moment a lot of cash for a closed computer.
