Upgrading Office to 2007 or 2010

I'm running Office 2000 Professional on XP SP2 and want to upgrade to Office Professional 2007 or 2010; what I'd like to ask is (1) which will be easier to get to know - 2007 or 2010 (2) are there any issues I should know about before embarking (3) what's the cheapest way to buy a genuine copy?

Do you use all the Office apps ? Do you qualify for...STUDENT or ACADEMIC discounts ?

Best to chk re compatibility between XP and Office ...not sure there's any MAJOR difference between Office 2007 and 2010.

Thank you for your reply - the reason I want to upgrade is that I work with MS Access and a lot of jobs I see advertised adverts require experience of Access 2007 or 2010; also I want to be confident using the appalling new ribbon system (in all MS Office apps) before I start any new job!!

I'm not a student and even if I did qualify for the academic version, I don't think its worth it cos I'd have to pay Microsoft's fee to keep using it every 12 months, apparently.

Then I'd go for 2010....provided it works with XP.

Office 2007 is roughly 5 years old and support will certainly stop before Office 2010. 2010 looks like the better, smarter choice to me.

Re prices....not sure where to tell you to look but there's plenty of places out there.
