I bought my wife a new computer (laptop) running Windows 7 to replace an old XP box. WET worked GREAT to move all her files, including Outlook Express message stores and WAB. I was astounded.
However, I decided not to buy Office because she uses a Word document or a Spreadsheet about three times a year! So I installed Open Office. It crashed the first time she got a .doc file in an attachment. Fortunately, I can pick it up for her on my machine (Windows 7, Office 2012) but I'd like to get something on her laptop that can read .xlsx, .docx, .doc, or .xls files that she may get from someone.
What can you guys recommend. Remember, Open Office (latest version) crashed. I uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times, tried different custom installs with just Writer and Calculate, but it won't work.
What else might be good? If I can find an old Office 2003 disk around my office I might install that and get converters for reading 2010+ files.
Help!
