importing autocorrect into openoffice

Hi all,

I'm looking to dump Word but I can't seem to figure out how to import my many, many autocorrect entries from word to Open office. I've done a web search but all the results seem to involve Ubuntu, coding, and a lot of stuff I don't understand. Of course there's no simple File/Import command. Why would it be that simple? But is there anything I can do? I use autocorrect all the time, and am not really keen on having to go thru the hundreds of entries and add them to OO's autocorrect feature by hand.

I have Win XP and otherwise a 'normal' setup. I.e., no Linux or any of that stuff.

Alternatively, is there another free word processor that does import the Word autocorrect entries?

http://www.taming-openoffice-org.com/newsite/?page_id=33 tells about the file in Writer.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826147 tells about exporting (backup) from Word 2003 (you didn't mention a version).
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/135778 tells about where it's stored in Word 2003.

If you can't find an import, see if you can find a way to convert one format to the other format. Notepad is your research friend here, to see if it are simple text files or complex binary files. Simple text files could be edited, maybe.

The alternative might be to stick to Word.

Thanks, sorry I forgot to mention Word version didn't I? I have office 2002.

The trouble w/ sticking w/ Word is twofold:
1. At work, they're likely to 'upgrade' me to 2007, which is what everyone else has. I kicked up a fuss when they were switching because they coulfn't figure out how to port the autocorrect files from 2002 to 2007; as a result, they left me w/ 2002. But now a file I opened has seemingly killed Word, so when they come to fix it--if I can't fix it myself first--they'll probably do so by doing the upgrade they didn't do before. I use autocorrect every. single. day. so I'm not at all keen on losing it or having to rebuild it from scratch (it'll take at least a whole day).

2. At home, eventually office 2002 will no longer be supported and I'll need to get something more recent. I'm really not down w/ spending a lot of money on an office suite, and would be perfectly happy w/ Open office if I could just import those blasted shortcuts!

Any more suggestions, I'm all ears!
