Office & productivity software forum: Outlook 2003 crashes when adding attachments

I don't know which folder location Outlook defaults to when she tries to add an attachment, but if it is to her My Pictures folder, or to a folder where images and/or videos are saved, and that folder is set to show thumbnails, then that may be the problem.

That is because, if any of the images or videos are corrupt, then Explorer, (the code Windows uses to display files), cannot render the thumbnail, and so closes. This may cause Outlook to close.

A way to test it is to use My Computer to navigate to the folder where Outlook attachment file finder normally opens to, and see if the My Computer window shuts down. If so, there is a corrupt file in that folder.

Now all she has to do is to try and identify which file is corrupt.

Let's say I have 6 files. I can find it in about 3 or 4 tests.

Fix I send 3 of the 6 and then the other 3. This will tell me which half has the error in it.

Now I send one at a time until it blows up.

-> But remember, some owners and users today don't know about email sending limits. I've seen this issue where the owners has spent weeks and hundred of bucks on tech support and all it was, was they were trying to email more bytes than their email server allowed.

Now before you slam them about not knowing, these are newer users that didn't go through all the prior growth pains. They are from the iPad generation and are blissfully unaware of these issues.
