List or Combo box?

I searched the forum and didn't appear to find an answer for my problem.
I work at a hyperbaric clinic and we use the same chart/form to record info on. What I would like to do is add a list or combo box that will let me choose the patient or add a new patient. I'm currently using a text form field to add the info to the form, but I think the list or combo box would work better.

You need to let us know what your current set-up is. Are you using Word? Access? InfoPath?
What software version are you using?
How is your current data being stored?
How would you like it to be stored?

Without knowing all of this, I am going to suggest that you use Microsoft Access to set-up a patient database and use the forms within Access.

Your second opion is to go with some kind of patient tracking software package that is specifically designed for your setting.

Third option would be to use Word with a drop down box, but this is ugly. Hard to populate the list with existing patients and not sure how you would store new patients.

I'm using Word 2002. I've been searching all over for a solution to the problem and Access keeps poping up. I guess thats a hint. I've never used Access for anything can you suggest a good book on it.
