Normal.dot and WORD 2000

Geez, Bob, are you in EVERY forum?...
I used your handy 'delete Normal.DOT' advice the last time WORD froze (with OS of WinME), and it worked like a charm. Now, I have just upgraded to XP, and WORD has gone into 'go slow' mode. It hangs on opening...but finally does. Then it hangs trying to open a document...but finally does. It hangs saving a document...but finally does. I searched for 'Normal.dot', but could not find it.
However, when I went to 'File/New', and in the following window right-clicked on 'Blank Document' and then selected 'Properties', it showed that this was 'Normal.dot'. I deleted that from inside 'WORD', hoping that this would clear it. It did not. Probably because, as soon as I cleared it within the open WORD window, it recreated it. Ah, well, I tried.
Any thoughts on what folder contains 'Normal.dot', and why a general C: Search for '*.dot' failed to find it?
