Windows 2000 blue screen after installing xp as second OS

Hi there,

I am currently using windows 2000 as my OS, but wanted to install XP for a second OS. After creating a new partition and installing xp, I restarted my computer. It then asked me to select which OS i wanted to use. I Selected Windows 2000. Starting up windows looked the same until the windows 2000 splash screen came up. After a few seconds
it showed a blue screen saying inaccessible_boot_device.
I restarted my computer and it was still coming up. I was able to get into XP without any problems.

I hope I get the answer to my problems soon,

http://help.lockergnome.com/windows2/INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE--ftopict481765.html repeats the issue if the BIOS changes, if this is SATA and so on.

Windows 2000 repair is to boot the 2000 CD, do the repair (unless this is a sata drive, etc.) and then fix 2000. After that you get to repair the XP boot loader.

Frankly I find running 2000 a bit of a pain on today's gear. The rules are arcane and can stress folk today. Let's hope you can run XP and then use VirtualBox to install a 2000 OS in Virtual Box for whatever reason you need that OS for.

Then it fails. This is an old old old issue. But I can't find the details in your post to figure out where it went wonky.

FAT32

My computer is a Dell Dimension 4550 with 1GB of ram.

Windows 2000 and xp are both partitioned as FAT32 systems.

I hope this information helps in understanding the problem

It's unclear if you tripped over the issue I noted. Also, I would have not used FAT32 for many reasons.

Be sure to boot the CD and use the Windows installer when partitioning. There are issues if you partition with something else.
