Changing A/V from AVG to Avast on Win2000

Hi, As Windows 2000 (which does everything I need of a basic operating system just to email and have limited net browsing )will no longer be supported by AVG's antivirus I am considering having to move to Avast which still does.
Being fairly clueless about computers, could anyone let me know if there might be any snags when doing so, and whether I must first "Uninstall" AVG (which will lose it for ever, I guess, should Avast not 'load' for any reason?) before trying to move to the new A/V prog. ??.

That's what I do for such changes. uninstall old, install new.

Hi, Thank you for the reply. I was surprised to see that AVG did, when I checked this morning, show a small update for my computer, but it was nothing like the usual size I used to get, so presume that it's all over for my continuing to use them.

So - - Avast it is then, and will cross fingers that it loads Ok and that I don't end up without anything!!!
I just originally wondered if one could upload the current 'old' AVG (it's 7.5 - - I have read that version '9' is pretty awful, so not recommended) I'm using onto a memory stick, and then if all else failed re-load it back onto the computer - but I'm probably just being paranoid!.

I guess I really should just get a more modern computer with a processor bigger than Pentium 3 and with more RAM that can handle AVG '11', but just baulk at all the expense for so little gain. Cheers, Richard
