Unknown Administrators Password, Needed for changes

I bought a used older School used Computer at a sale. A HP model D530,
x-86 based pc. processor x-86 15 model 2 step with intel processor, 74.5 mg memory. 90 % avail. This is a extra unit for me and need to be able to reset password or reboot system to factory specs. It has windows 2000 profes. installed. I don't have a recovery disk. and wondered if I can buy the license and reinstall it, or can I upgrade to a new version of windows. What are my options please. As it stands now, I can only use system logging in as a user limited access. Not able to get any updates or changes to current system like adding a printer, ect. without Administrators Password.

Use NTPASSWD (see google) to reset the admin or other account password.

As Windows 2000 was left with an unpatched security issue please do not buy this old OS.

Thanks Bob. I will try that later today. Thanks for the info on 2000 NT. do you think this computer could take a upgrade to a newer version? What woulld you recomend? Thanks Again.. Paul

I'm on travel and just came by.

For me I'd skip all OS upgrades and head to Windows 7. Try the test at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx
