Windows 2000/NT forum: computer won't boot until you hit reset button

There is a rare issue with 2000 when one reboots on a dual-OS from 98 to 2000 (or was it 2000 to 98?), but your post is not about that. In fact another missing item is that if I read your post, this happened once. "this morning"...

If this is a rare occasion, then don't fix it.

If it does it everytime, you may not want to fix it due to the time and expense to find the bad part. It's most likely to be the motherboard, but you start with the cheaper power supply (make it a whopper!)

In closing, what will annoy everyone is that you can't tell which part it is until you change it and the issue vanishes.

I'd not fix this today.

for leaks or bulging sides. This is a noted defect which can cause those same issues.

Unless you are skilled at this, a new board is how its done technician time far exceeds the cost of the board.

I think you shouls check the power management settings...did you try to do it??
