Virtual Device Driver format in registry invalid

Windows 2000 Pro, Dell Latitude. Received a "16 bit Windows subsystem error" after login and when desktop comes up.
Error read: System\current control set\control\virtual device drivers.VDD Virtual Device Driver Format in the Registry is Invalid. Choose "close" to terminate the application.

Any ideas on where to start?

I'll add you should look up STARTER in these forums (use the SEARCH) and find out what item is causing the error.

Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid.

Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close" to terminate the application.

I have tried run>regedit>HLM>system>current control set>control. but vdd does not exist under the above process.

I don't expect the above to apply.

However, look at the search words I used. Now you can put in your new error on google and see if its been discussed.

Remember that I want to enable you to find solutions. I only hand out the answer if it's a tough one that I know the answer to.
