NT4 upgrade to win 2000 active directory

I have an old NT4 domain. I need to upgrade this to win 2000/2003. I run a DNS and DCHP on a Win2K server now. Is it possible to upgarde the domain, then add AD to the server running DNS/DHCP?

NT4 is wildly different and the hardware we used a fraction of what we used in 2003/2008 that I'm going to write there is no upgrade path.

However there may be a migration as you install your new server and move people and such to the new server.

When upgrading a domain from NT to 2000 does the DNS have to run on the PDC? I have a member server running 2000 supplying DNS. Can this server host an AD zone for the domain upgrade without it being a domain controller?
