Time Machine back up to window shared drive

Hi Guys,

I have tried creating a time machine back up to our windows shared drive.

However when I try to back up, it will throw up an error of :
" time machine could not complete the backup. the back up disk is not available."

So far here is what I have done.

MAC computer is authenticated by the AD, I was able to mount the network drive and it is being recognized by time machine. When I select my network drive for back up, it connects then will try to do the back up..afterwards will throw the error message stated above.

I created the sparsebundle and stuff and also enabled MAC to recognize network drive.

I was able to do everything as the blog indicated except for backing up.

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

What exactly do you mean with a 'windows shared drive'?

And wouldn't it be easier to just buy new external disk to backup to. It's an Apple specific file anyway, so there is no real need to have it on a disk that's reachable or maintained from Windows.

Hi Kees,

Thanks for the reply, we are testing to back up our MAC machine to our shared network drive in the server.
Which is hosted on Windows 2008.
