Mac Book compatability with Dell projector

How do I get a Dell projector to work with a mac book? I have the appropriate adapter, but when I connect everything it can't seem to find the "source." I have used this projector before and it worked, so I think it's a setting problem.

Take a look in the Monitors

Preference pane while you have the projector connected the MBA.

You should find the answer there
