Safari and Chrome freezes Mac. Please help

Hi,

I am using a Macbook Pro. With 10.7.5 OS.


6 months ago my mac has gone through stages of freezing when I open Chrome. It starts on the navigator but eventually spreads to anything in use in the the Mac creating a freeze of the whole system (iPlayer desktop, finder, PS, iTunes)

I first started by uninstalling Chrome and using Safari instead. This worked for a couple of months. Then the same thing happened to Safari. So I moved to Firefox a few weeks ago but I'm afraid the same thing will eventually happen to Firefox so I am asking for help before it happens.

I have made numerous steps to counteract this such as Verifying and repairing disc permissions, downloading latest Flash.

how old is this MBP?

How much RAM does it have?
When was the last time you used a can of air to clean out the vents?

Does this only happen with Browsers?

This Mac Book Pro is about 2 years old.

The Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

It only happens with browsers Chrome (which I unistalled) and Safari, but after starts freezes the whole computer. Firefox still works fine.

I never used a can or air to clean the vents but I think if that was the problem Firefox would be equally affected, right?

I wish more laptop owners owned that used it on some schedule. I'm seeing owners of laptops treat them like bricks. They don't know about canned air or why it matters.
