And preview?

It's more than just video files and you tube though. If I try to open a jpg in preview I get a blank screen. I can see the thumbnail in the side bar but no picture. If I open a pdf in preview it shows up just fine. I can no longer display a video or jpg image. I'm thinking about copying everything off and reinstalling the OS

You may want to wait for our Appleheads to reply. I know that preview can be treacherous because to make a preview your code has to be able to decode the file.

Since folk went a little nuts with some thousands and still more encoding methods it is no longer possible to expect an OS to decode all these. Plus some of them require paying a license fee to decode (example? mpegla.com)

This area is fun to watch to see where it will go as the number of video encodings climb.

The JPEG one however is usually something I see with folk that have the newer 20 megapixel cameras. The OSes usually limit how big the image is for many reasons. I won't list those here since I want to read what you think these are.

for a couple of years and are very much smaller than 4 mg. I did get an error message with the last youtube (or maybe Vimeo) video I attempted to play that said I had to have Flash 8+ and Java enabled. My flash player and java handler are up to date and enabled so that's not the problem - but apparently my computer thinks it is. A clue perhaps?

and it repaired about 30 permisssions. Then I tried opening some pics on my desktop - nada. Tried to view a video - nada.

So i repaired again - same permissions were repaired again - then I tried a third and a fourth time. Each time it says it repaired the same permissions and each time they are still wrong. I'm guessing I need to reformat and reinstall 10.6.8 - but of course I no idea where the disks are.

Should I just buy 10.7?
