New Hardrive...now Safari won't open

I just got a new hardrive...now Safari won't open. It shows for a sec in the dock, then I get a message that it quit unexpectedly. When I go to applications to open...same thing. I downloaded Firefox, which I don't mind using, but then it appears I have lost all of my bookmarks that I had while on Safari. I don't mind using Firefox or some other browser....but can't afford to lose all of my bookmarks. Help would be appreciated.

This new hard drive. Is it internal or external?

If external, what does Safari do if you have it disconnected?

You know, I changed to google chrome, and everything fixed...and they asked me if I wanted to import bookmarks and I said yes...and all is well.
