How do I restore e-mails lost after deleting Mail POP acct?

I still have Tiger on this computer. In Mail preferences and accounts I deleted my POP Verizon account since I changed providers. Instantly, every e-mail in my in-box and sent box dissappeared without any warning message. I have not backed up the computer for several months (I know - huge mistake), so I do not want to restore this way. The e-mails are no longer on the Verizon server. Is there any fix to retrieve my lost e-mails? I didn't empty any trash; it seems like the e-mails must be somewhere on the hard drive. Thank you so much for any suggestions!

create a new account with exactly the same settings as the one you deleted.

username, password, server names, etc.

I did this immediately after deleting the account, thinking it may restore the e-mails, but the inbox is empty. If I go in through home/library/mail, I see the new POP Verizon account, but the inbox is empty. Any other suggestions?

one of your regular backups.
However, I think that may just be wishful thinking.


That method has always worked for me; the mail did not actually get deleted, it is still on your HD but until you match, exactly, the old Verizon account, it will not be displayed.

I have the mail acct on a laptop (but never saved any mail on it) so I know I have the correct acct. settings, but there is nothing in the in-box, and I don't know enough how to find something hidden on the hard drive. Haven't found a Mac tech locally to take the computer to either. Thanks again for trying to help me. I think I'm just out of luck.
