Software Update Loop

Since upgrading HP drivers for my printer from the HP web site, HP Printer Software Update 2.8 keeps showing up from Apple. I install it, it shows up as having installed correctly, then it shows up in Software Update again, even after rebooting. I suppose I can ignore it indefinitely, but that will get old.

Simple. When it shows up in the Software Update list, hit the backspace key, or in one of the menu items there will be an option to ignore the update, which means it won't show up in your list again until there's a new version.

Thanks - I was not aware of that feature. Do you know why that it might not have installed correctly, or is not being recognized as being installed correctly? I want to blame HP, since everything worked fine until I ran a driver update.

I could guess, but honestly I really don't know for sure. Sometimes these things just happen, and you come to find that the time and effort spent tracking down the root cause is just not worth it. Apple is so insistent on this whole secrecy about everything, we're really kind of left fumbling around in the dark hoping we get lucky and trip over an answer.
