Alternative to Safari 5.1.3 installation in Lion?

I hate the way Lion (10.7) Safari automatically switches between smaller-screen filled pages, and also the slide necessary to reveal the place where you enter a web address. Both these features of Safari in Lion are a nuisance to me. I want to install an earlier version of Safari that lacks both of these features, but is difficult to go backwards in versions. Is there an earlier version of Safari that will work in Lion, and how can I install it?

You can download Firefox or Chrome for a substitute browser.

Not really, and Apple has done something similar to Microsoft and integrated Safari into parts of the OS, so it's not a good idea to try and use older versions.

I'd go with the other suggestion of trying Firefox (my personal choice, since you can have the full experience with AdBlock Plus and NoScript, not some cheap watered down pale imitation like with the others), Chrome, or Opera. All three are free, have Mac versions, and so you can give each one a quick test run to see how you like it and keep whichever one you like best, or all of them, or some of them, whatever you want. Having at least one other web browser around is often a good idea, since every now and then you run across a site which refuses to work with one browser, but then works fine with another one.

reveal the place where you enter a web address.

I am using Lion and Safari 5.1.4 and I have the address bar clearly visible at the top of the page, all the time.

Take a look at the menu bar item View and choose Customize Toolbar.
Set it to default and you will have the address bar there all the time.

"Smaller-screen filled pages" Are those the pages that do not take up the whole of the window that you have open or is that something else.

Safari will auto-size to the actual size of the web page being viewed if you want it to. Personally, I have a window open (but not full screen) and live over the white bars on each side.
