Data recovery software

My Time Machine backup went crazy today. I had to restart iMac. It would not recognize my LaCie backup. LaCie says I need data recovery software to get info off the device. I need a recommendation. Thanks.

At this link, Moderators added a few Apple titles. We progress from free, free to try and then recovery houses.

PS. Since this is "backup" why is there is any need to recovery data? Maybe you used it as storage?

... is my backup and storage. It is not recognized by my 2 Macs, so I have to get the data off of it with a recovery program. Thanks for the info.(*_*)

You might want to try Disk Warrior

it is not free but it has saved a whole slew of drives for me.

It rebuilds the directory of the drive which is one of the reasons why a drive will appear on the desktop or be recognized by Disk Utility.
Worth a try
