Mac OS X forum: Uninstall Google Chrome

I find the Google Chrome application in Finder, then drag the Chrome icon to the trash. I'm then asked if I really want to delete it---I click delete and the error message appears, saying I can't due to the system Error-61.

These things happen every couple of blue moons, and usually the quickest solution is to use the Unix layer to delete the file.

You'll have to adapt this a little for your system but a command along the lines of: sudo rm -f "~/.Trashes/Google Chrome.app" should do the trick after you put in your password. If you don't have a password on your account, you'll need to add one temporarily. The sudo command doesn't like it when you have no password.

Might also be time to run a repair permissions operation from Disk Utility. In fact, you can try that before the Unix method I just mentioned, though not sure it'll help.

Despite probably the best effort of anyone thus far, it's still a good idea for Mac users to have a rudimentary understanding of the Unix OS that makes up the core of Mac OS X. Just enough to do some basic operations like navigate the file system and delete files when things like this happen.
