I have a new MacBook Pro that keep crashing on me - shuts down completely (black screens) with a pop up saying I need to shut down. This is the report I get...

Assuming that you have not installed any new RAM

since you purchased your new MacBook Pro, and that you live reasonably close to an Apple Store, I would pay them a visit.

Failing that, you could try an archive and install of the OS.
This will keep your data intact while replacing the Operating System.

But first, try this:

In your HOME folder, go to Library, Preferences and find com.apple.dashboard.plist
Drag it onto the desktop
Reboot and see if you problem happens again.

Make sure you are in the library that is inside your HOME folder.

I have a new mac book pro 13 inch i5 processor.
Just got it today and I am trying to work on it, but every few minutes it crashed, this is really annoying.

Can you please explain what the com.apple.dashboard.plist is? why do you recommend doing so to solve this problem?

When I drag it out from the preferences library to the desktop it is being deleted from the preferences folder, should I keep it on the desktop after restart? or maybe should I copy it back to the preferences folder?

It's a preference file for the dashboard program, and the general idea is to either move it out of the way or delete it, reboot, and let it be automatically regenerated.

I heard on another site about an issue with the '11 MacBook Pros overheating under heavy load. Don't know if your case applies, but it might be worth taking it to the Apple Store. Below is the link to the Apple Discussion about the issue, it's a rather long thread.

Nope, the crash log shows they're running 10.5, so this is most definitely not an Early 2011 model we're dealing with.

Hi,

I am using the new mac book pro 13" with i5 processor, it uses mac os 10.6.6.

It might be that the error log I get might be a bit different then the one attached above, but the problem is the same, every few minutes I get a fatal error screen that forces to force shutdown the computer by pressing the power button. When the computer restarts I get this error log which is sent to Apple.

Hi,

I have been to Apple store and was told that the problem was fixed by Apple in a software update from tonight.

I had a problem caused not by heavy load but when tethering my iPhone and using it ad a modem.

The fix is good for all those problems.

Unfortunately I returned my new mac book pro, since I couldn't wait, but if I waited one more day it would have been resolved. I guess I will wait few more days and will go to apple store to buy a new one (hopefully will include the fix and I won't have to download myself).
I have to say I was very satisfied about the service I got from apple, was very fast and professional, even if I had a thought to buy a non apple computer now I sure I will buy the same computer in just a few days.

I would not bank on having the latest software

preinstalled in a new computer. It could easily be 1-2 iterations back (mine that was made in January came with 10.6.4). I would first run software update and then play with the new computer. I guess, you also need to be sure that the iPhone also has the latest software/firmware version.

Hi,

I am having exactly the same problem. I have a MacBook Pro 2.3 ghz Intel Core i5. with snow leopard 10.6.8.
I don t know if it is under warranty anymore because I bought it a little less than a year ago from a reseller, and I added some new RAMs into it. The Crash has nothing to do with the RAM because it happened before. I thought it might be because of my installation of Parallel Software (I also use windows XP) but I don't think so, otherwise the problem would be widely reported on Parallel support, which it is not.

My laptop keep crashing on me in what seems completely random way every now and then. Usually once per week, sometimes (rarely), twice in a row. I ll add the report next time it crashes to see if an expert can read something into it. I am disappointed as this laptop is used everyday for professional reasons.
