G5 Desktop running OS 10.4.11, 1GB. Mac Mail Version 3.6.

I have recently opened my mail and would begin to download in excess of 1000 messages. Most were in the spam mauk box. This has happened three times in the past two months. I would normall have about 60 messages in any one day. Any ideas out there?

This happens at my home which is on a network but there is never more than one computer on the network at any one time. The mail messages come faster than I can delete them.

try this:
open Mail and immediately take your email account offline.
Now create a rule that puts any mail that is not specifically addressed to you by full name, into the junk folder.
Let it all come down, open the junk folder, select all and delete.

Leave that rule in place and it should continue to filter your mail.

Mac Mail Version 3.6

My G5 Desktop is also running OS 10.4.11 (Tiger), but the Mac Mail Version is 2.1.3. I have searched the Apple Website, but can't find the upgrade/update to version 3.6. Would anyone be so kind as to provide a link to download Mac Mail Version 3.6?

The correct version of Mail came with whatever version of the OS you are running and when it is updated it is included in the OS update and made available through Software Update.

Not sure your spam problem has anything to do with the version of Mail that you are running.

Have you considered upgrading the OS on the G5 to 10.5?

Thank you for your quick and useful reply. I do have OS 10.5.8 (Leopard) on an external drive, and the Mac Mail version there indeed is 3.6. I'm curious to know how John is able to run version 3.6 under OS 10.4.11.

Eventually, I'll probably have to switch over to Leopard. But for the time being, I prefer riding my trusty Tiger.

The only reason I have not upgraded my OS 10.4.11 to Leopard is my wife. I use Leopard on my Laptop. As the poster wrote there is no download for a higher version independently. I have given some thought to trying different email package like Eudora to see how that might work but I spent a long time training my mail package and would like to avoid that.
