OS X 10.6.4 - Fax Modem Dock Icon

I have a late 2009, 21.5 inch, 3.06GHz core 2 Duo iMac and a Zoom USB Modem model 3095. My apps include iWork 09, NeoOffice 3.1.1 and MS Office 2004 for Mac - they are all up-to-date at the time of writing. I connect to the internet via a broadband box. The USB modem is not configured for connecting to the internet. I have been using the modem for a couple of weeks for the sole purpose of faxing documents direct from my Mac.

On Thursday 24 June I upgraded my OS. With 10.6.3 both the widow accessed from the fax modem dock item (DIW) and the menu bar fax icon (MBI) showed the fax status information throughout the sending of a fax. Now with 10.6.4 the MBI continues to display the fax status but the DIW shows dialing xx.. as transmission progresses. Console in both OS versions reports the fax has been sent successfully.

Can you help to get the dock icon window to return to displaying the correct fax status as transmission progresses.

Thanks for your response MrMacFixit.

Could you please clarify the comment "What do the creators of your Fax software have to say about the problem. I do not use any specific fax software. The Zoom USB modem 3095 is said to be plug and play compatible with OS X 10.6 and indeed worked as expected prior to the latest OS X upgrade.

To fax a document I use File > Print > Fax button > Fax PDF on the relevant app's menu bar. This route is available in all the three apps I mentioned and Mac Help lead me to believe that this is method I should use.

As I mentioned previously my OS and the other apps involved are all the latest available versions.

Could you please let me know whether or not I understand the plug and play aspect and whether my understanding from reading Mac Help is correct. If either is not could you advise me what I am doing wrong and what I need to do to get over the Fax Dock icon window problem.

Sorry, my fault

I assumed, incorrectly, that you were using a specific FAX software program and not the built in function of OS X.

Looks like something cosmetic got broken in the upgrade.

You could try downloading the 10.6.4 combo update from the Apple site and running the combination update.
Running the combo has been known to fix a few things

Combo Update

Thanks mrmacfixit.

I am sorry but I should have explained that I never use auto update for OS updates. Since I began reading MacFormat I have always downloaded updates from the Apple website. With recent combo updates I have repaired my Mac HD before and after I have installed them.

Thanks again for your help. I will wait and see if the problem is overcome by a future update.
