Can't upgrade Adobe Flash Player on Snow Leopard.

List members,

CNET Teck Tracker informs me that I need to update to Adobe Flash Player 10.0.45.2. When I try to do this I see my HD with a yellow triangle over it, saying that I already have a more advanced version of Flash Player installed. But this isn't true. I've reinstalled OS 10.6.2, fixed permissions - no change. Woudl appreciate any suggestions; thank you in advance.

Installing the newest version of Flash Player

You need to download the Flash Player uninstaller. Run it to uninstall your current version of the Flash Player. Now you can install the new version.

It would be nice of Adobe to let its users in on the secret, instead of relying on the user community to get the message out.

Beta?

Are you sure you never installed the 10.1 beta of flash that's been around. Some of the download sites mistakenly treated it as a regular release instead of beta.

Check the version at:

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash Player.plugin

uninstaller doesn't work

The uninstaller seems to have been developed for an earlier version of OS X. It doesn't work on Snow Leopard. I still can't install the latest version of Flash Player. Thanks for any thoughts.

I'm surprised. The uninstaller worked fine for me on Snow Leopard. Maybe search for an updated uninstaller version.

In theory at least, you should be able to drag your current Flash Player to Trash, and uninstall it that way. However, I don't know whether that will be good enough in this circumstance; Flash Player files remaining on your O/S after removing the existing version may still interfere.

I was using the wrong uninstaller. The one for OS X worked fine; I was able to install the latest Flash Player immediately. Thanks for everyone's help.
