Thanks for the information I've read on this post thus far!
I'm studying for the Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (10.6) exam, where I'll need to work on both desktop and server versions of 10.6. We have an Intel iMac that meets the specs for installation of either system (Lion or the older 10.6 server).
Can I partition my 1TB drive and install 10.6 server on one partition, then 10.7 Lion on the other? I need to work on the server side to run through the testing materials, studying, etc...but would also still like to have a copy of Lion running for regular family stuff (iCloud, iTunes, etc.). Will this work?
I'd be fine with buying an external HD and installing server on that one (if that's possible) and leaving the 1TB for Lion.
And sorta OT...should I hold out for OS Lion server certification? I'm the IT guy for a non-profit that's running 10.5.8 on an Xserve machine which was setup long before I got here. Any of the "heavy lifting" is done by an off-site consultant who's a certified Mac network guy...we aren't using half of the features of the Server software. I'd love to see us migrate up to Lion Server (not sure that'll run on Xserve) at some point and really make use of the integrated features like iCal and mail (we use Google Apps at present).
