Snow Leopard and Adobe upgrading

I recently installed 10.6.2 and keep getting upgrade messages from Adobe that there are upgrades available for Reader. I currently have 9.1.0 which is working fine. When I try to upgrade to any version of 9.1.1 to 9.3 and I click on the disk file image, it asks me which version I want to upgrade. However, all my versions are greyed out and I can't click on any of them. When I simply follow Adobe's upgrade instructions to download and install, I get an error message and it remains incomplete. Any help would be much appreciated.

Something may be wrong on your computer. I would apply Onyx for maintenance for starters. Then, open your Reader, go to Help, click on check for updates and the update should install. At some point it will ask you to install pdf viewer for Safari and I advise not to install it; it does not work for many people (PDF Browser Plugin does, but the browser has to be set to 32-bit in the Get Info). Hopefully, you would be OK. If nothing works, just trash your Reader and download a fresh copy from Adobe site.

Thanks for the tip. I tried Onyx. No dice. I'm going to trash all of my Reader files and am now downloading the latest version. Shall I still change Safari to 32-bit.

Not if you don't need a pdf viewer

If you do, Reader is unreliable. The Schbert's PDF browser plugin is great but requires 32-bit. The good news, you may not see any difference between 32 and 64.

Acrobat Reader

I did away with Adobe Reader years ago. Too many security problems all the time. The newer versions of Apples Preview work just as well, or maybe even better. I have not looked back and am very happy with Preview.
