Strange Airport 802.1X problem

Hello guys.
Recently I had my late 2007 white MacBook serviced in an authorized reseller, to change the top cover, since my keyboard was failing in some keys.

Before that, everything was fine. But ever since then, my Airport connection at the office is failing. If I connect to my guest (unsecured) SSID, everything is fine. At home, with WPA Personal, also OK. The problem is in my production WPA Enterprise with 802.1X.

When I connect to it, it asks me for the password and then authenticates successfully. But, instead of getting an IP address, it simply starts the auth process again, and again, and again, in an endless loop. Both at the Console and in my authentication server, I can see "Authentication Successful" messages filling up my log. Eventually, it authenticates and stays connected, getting an IP address, and if this happens, everything works like a charm. But this is very intermittent.

Remove user profiles

Try going to the "Network" --> "Advanced" --> "802.1X" section of the system preferences and removing the user profile for your connection. Then set it up again.

Are there any other authentication profiles in the list?

None. Just this one. And I did what you told me several time.

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and nothing changed, same simptom.

Does anything appear in the system logs (check them with the "Console.app" utility) when this problem happens?

Same Problem

I'm having the exact same problem with a WPA Enterprise network. It uses the EAP-FAST authentication method, but does exactly the same kind of authentication---de-authentication flickering. It's as if the authentication won't stick. I've had my AirPort card replaced with no resolution. I have a feeling something changed in one of the recent 10.5.x System Updates, something not fixed by the 10.6 software. I've seen other posts about this problem, but no solution yet, other than the ubiquitous "reinstall the System Software" recommendation.

If I find a solution, I will post it.

Instead of selecting the scanned network, use the "Join Other Network..." option and specify the network. Additionally, try removing these two files (airport cache and preference files) to see if that clears up the problem. The "NUMBER" in the cache file can be any number.

This problem really only happens in my corporate network. We have two locations, Rio de Janeiro and So Paulo. The authentication servers are located in SP.

When in Rio, I'm never able to connect. In SP it's intermittent, sometimes 'the authentication sticks, sometimes not. I think it could have something related to delay of the EAPOL packets

Hi Marcelo. I was having the exact same problem with the PEAP repetitive authentication thing. I found this.

Basically its a downgrade from the 10.5.8 firmware to the 10.5.7 firmware. There's a website on that page that tells you what you need to do. It will involve some stuff in the Mac terminal. Pretty self explanatory, and I just tried it today because I could not connect to my school's WPA enterprise network. I have Leopard; not sure if it'll work with Snow Leopard though.
