OS X System Preferences - Sound & Volume Control

I have found the Max volume in OS X to be lower than I would like - especially when viewing DVDs or online movies. Is there a way in which I can adjust the system maximum volume output? Connecting external speakers is sometimes an annoyance.

hold down the shift key and press the up arrow

With QuickTime Player, hold down the shift key and press the up arrow.
That will increase the volume even when the slider is at it's maximum.
If the volume is above it's maximum, pressing the up arrow (without the shift key) will set it back to it's (normal) maximum.

Pump up the volume

You adjust the system sound level in System Preferences or the menu bar ( if you have that option checked) The menu bar will be the sames as SP settings and vice versa.

But you can not change the maximum volume setting for internal speakers. Wouldn't want to anyway. We are talking small speakers.

If you want to crank it up you have to do it with the controls on amplified external speakers but don't drive those speakers with more than about 75 percent level on SP Sound settings -to prevent distortion.
