Mac OS X forum: Entourage 2004 Data Base Utility won't run in Snow Leopard

I haven't upgraded to Snow Leopard yet, but this is a deal-breaker issue. I totally rely on having all of my Office for Mac 2004 programs working for my business. Hope this gets worked out SOON!

That's great to hear. Have you tried all of the Office programs? Others have also reported issues with Entourage or the Database Utility not working. Sounds like, for you, it was just an installation issue.

This issue has been covered here before. The 2004 PPT would not open under SL and hang. The only workaround is to manually uninstall Office (don't use uninstaller), its preferences and a folder in Library>applications support, and reinstall it again and then apply all the updates through Microsoft Autoupdate. I can confirm that it works.

I don't understand your "etiquette" issue. When I said that it has been covered before, this is true. We are not here about telling others what to say as long as it is not condescending or bullying, for which my language certainly does not qualify. We are here to share problems and try to help. As far as the problems are concerned, the best strategy is to google them first and if nothing is turned up then go to the forums. Unfortunately, few people do that...
FYI, if you search for "powerpoint 2004 Mac snow leopard problem", the first four hits would tell you the same.

I recently upgraded to a new Mac, still running Entourage X. I got a 4362 error, so thought I needed to rebuild the database. When I started the rebuild, I got a dialog box saying "Preparing to Rebuild", but the progress bar never budged beyond 0% and it didn't look like anything was happening.

But later when I checked the Main Identities folder (inside Documents), I could see the rebuild database was there. Eventually the process finished, and everything seems to work fine, but it may have taken an hour or two.

P.S. - I DID get a 4363 error afterward, but that's just because an attachment file was missing from an item I was trying to send; I re-attached and it was fine.
