Apple Laserwriters 4/600PS not working under Snow Leopard

I have two 4/600PS Laserwriters connected to my network via ASANTE print boxes (Appletalk to Ethernet), but I cannot print anymore after installing SL. At the print command they seem to be activated, but immediately afterwards the get into "pause mpde".
I filled in the IP address of the printer, which is working on my old G4 in the same network, but that did not help. Can I do something with an Airport extreme base station connected to the ethernet hub???
But maybe I talk nonsense.
Hope someone can help.

I think the problem here is the Asante boxes

They convert Ethernet to AppleTalk and AppleTalk to Ethernet.

Unfortunately, there is no AppleTalk in Snow Leopard so the days are numbered for that printing method.

Not sure how the Airport would help here.

Thank you for your reply. I have solved the problem via sharing both computers (and printers of course) via my G4 (with the old Leopard). So I need not take my good old 4/600's to the shredder.
