What exactly do you mean? Adobe has many applications and on my MacBook Pro even old ones are working. You have to specify what program is misbehaving, on which platform, and whether older applications require Rosetta. I have Photoshop CS and Acrobat 7 (really old things) working well under SL. If this is just rumors from forums, it is not entirely true.

Using the Adobe printer doesn't work; it will freeze the application from which you are printing. You need to update to the Save As Adobe (at least that can be done in Adobe 9; I haven't looked at earlier versions).

I have the same problem and I hate to have to keep two computers because Apple abandoned AppleTalk !
My HP 2100 had already been turned into a 2100tn via the addition of an Ethernet 10Base card, at the time Apple abandoned the serial port. So I wonder if there is no way now to make the printer work via its IP, but I don't know what settings to use.
To be complete, up to now under 10.5 the printer was pluged on the RJ-45 port of my TimeCapsule and thus shared via WiFi.

Could you kindly precise exactly what settings you made in Print & Fax ?

I've been able to set up my HP2100TN as follows:
Make sure the printer is connected to your ethernet.
Print a SelfTest/Configuration page
The second page, under Protocol Information should list TCP/IP status as Ready and list the IP address of the printer as configured by DHCP.
Go to Print & Fax and click on the Add button.
Choose IP with the HP JetDirect-Socket.
Enter the IP address you found above. If the computer finds the printer, it will automatically select HP LaserJet 2100 Series.
Add the printer.
Then, open the print queue and run a test page.

Works perfectly!

But I haven't been able to do the same for the Color LaserJet 1500L (a driver for that isn't in the Printers list). It sees it as a USB printer, though. I tried using Gutenprint attached to a different HP printer, to no avail. so for my color printing needs I'll need to keep that MacMini on hand unless (until?) a driver becomes available.

is for OS X 10.4 but it is worth a try.

See if she can open http://localhost:631 on her computer, click on Administration, under "Server" Edit Configuration File, select "Use Default Configuration File." Then back at the Administration page, make sure that "Show printers shared by other systems" and "Allow users to cancel any job" are both checked. Once she's back to the default configuration, she may be able to add the printer back (if it isn't already in her printer list).

Snow Leopard is a nightmare with HP LaserJet 2100 series drivers. I am asking Apple and/or HP to state clearly that the HP LJet 2100 is not supported by Snow Leopard.

There is no way to assign an IP address to this printer. When the system sees the printer, it cannot identify it. Yet it will accept the Print Command, than fall into a pause mode.

One of the Job message is : /usr/libexec/cups/backend/lpd failded.
Another type of message is: 'connected to the printer' and nothing happens.

Computer: MacPro (Intel), MacOS X 10.6.1

noticed that you were talking about a 2100TN, as in Network, but the question still stands.

To use IP printing, the printer must be connected to a network, AND you must know the IP address of the printer.
Even though OS X seems to let you set up the port using a made up number, it obviously does not work as the system cannot find the printer, on the port that your configured, when you go to Print.

To find the correct IP address of your printer, do this:
Press and release the GO and JOB CANCEL buttons simultaneously when the printer is ready. If you have an EIO card installed, a second page will print listing all of the EIO information.
Once you have the IP address, you can create an HP TCP/IP port for that printer and you should be able to print correctly.

you asked for people's problems with snow leopard?

so far, I've had 3, 1 solved and 2 unsolved:

1) disappearing icons from desktop & folders (solved by trashing a preferences file in "Home" folder) - others experienced disappearing icons from Dock and haven't been able to get them back so far;

2) DVD Player (v. 5.2) won't play all DVDs that played under 10.5.x;

3) HP C3180 all-in-one printer/scanner won't scan any longer - HP says driver included in SL install disk, but only for printer, not scanner...workaround may be using Preview or another Mac app (haven't tried this yet), but this "solution" doesn't include an OCR which was originally included with the HP installation...

probably more problems listed in apple discussions...if anyone has solutions to my 2 unsolved problems, would like to know...thanks!
