There is not a lot of information to go on here.
If the lid is open, see if you can replicate the problem by lifting the iBook about an inch up from the desk, slowly. If it is still on, gently flex the base. Did it sleep?
It is actually safer for the machine to be asleep during any move as the HD heads move back to their parked position and sudden jolts do not cause the heads to contact platter surface and damage it.
Another thought comes to mind, is it running on battery power when you move it? Could we be looking at something coincidental here. Is the iBook set to go to sleep after so many minutes of inactivity and is about to sleep when you move it? Is this actually Sleep or is it just the screen saver that comes on? Is there any noise from the machine when it is "asleep"? HD spinning, fan running etc.?
Does it go to sleep when the AC adapter is plugged in and you move it?

Hi sorry about the lack of info.
The Lid is open when i pick up the machine.
I was able to pick up the machine 1 inch off the desk, i then hit the bottom of it where the battery is and it when to sleep, the white light come on at the front of the iBook. so i tried taking out the battery and it done the same thing, i then tilted the iBook forward and then back, left and right, i done it softly first and nothing happen so then i done it a bit quick and it went to sleep. does the iBook have some sort of sensor in it?
When it goes to sleep you don't hear any noises, no HD spinning and No Fan just the white sleep light.
The setting for the energy savour is default as i have just installed a clean OS on it 10.3.9. But at start up the HD is a bit loud, do you think the Hard drive could make the machine go to sleep if it is faulty. ( what i mean by noisy is that you hear it spin louder then normal and makes a whistling sound.

the newer iBooks have a motion sensor which shuts down the HD if it feels that the iBook is falling.
I think your machine is a little earlier than that.
There is almost certainly something loose inside there and I have a feeling that there is no warranty or Applecare to cover the investigation.
I doubt the machine would sleep if the HD were faulty, there would be other symptoms before that.
Any warranty?
