Sudden computer slowdown

by jamesmatfield - 3/5/14 9:56 AM

Ok, I am pretty new to these types of forums but most seems like good places to get good advice from other computer owners. I recently bought all the parts to build my own pc after years of dabbling in upgrading my own. I followed the instructions and before long I had my new beast up and running, playing games and watching movies. Being paranoid that I installed something wrong, I installed speedfan to monitor my temps and always kept a check on the case to see if any strange sounds came from it.
Anyways, after about a month, it just started randomly slowing down to a near dead crawl. I cannot for the life of me figure it out. I had installed all of the Sims 3 and expansion packs recently, so thought maybe it was the hard drive due to packing on all that extra data. (Installed a few other games too, but Sims 3 by far took up the most room.) All my copies of software are legit too, including my windows 7...I know that can be a big cause of issues for some people. Anyways, it did it one night and it was just all the sudden. I'd click an application to launch it and it would take forever to get around to doing anything. It was going so slow I wasn't even getting the taking to long to respond prompt most programs give.
So, I opened my case, dusted it out, checked to make sure everything was plugged up tight, turned it on and it still ran horribly slow. I gave up for the night and turned it off. The next day I booted it up and re-installed windows fresh and formatted the hard drive. It worked well for a few more hours and then it started all over again, even though all I had installed at that point was avast antivirus and firefox. I am stumped as to where my hard ware issue is coming from, but it seems to be that instead of software. Only thing I can think of doing is changing out parts one at a time to see what works and what doesn't. (Costly too really.) Anyone have any advice?

Right now the system specs are windows 7 Ultimate,
Amd fx-8350 processor, 1 tb seagate hardrive, m5a97 le r2.0 motherboard, lg cd drive/ writer and CORSAIR XMS 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) memory. I think that is most the basics except the tower, which is a full size thor gaming tower. (Don't think it could have much to do with it.) Any help or advice would be welcome.
