What compatibility reasons

What compatibility reasons? Seriously. Name some of the programs you actually tried with Windows 8 that didn't work, but did work with Windows 7. I've come to find that most people who trot out the compatibility reason, regardless of which Windows version we're talking about, have never actually TRIED.
I'm neutral on the whole Windows 8 thing personally, but odds are if there aren't any readily available Windows 7 drivers on the manufacturer's website, you're looking at having to identify the individual core components yourself and hunting down a driver direct from the component manufacturer who may or may not have Windows 7 drivers available. So the long and short of it is that things haven't changed since the Vista days... Not every system can be downgraded to the previous version of Windows. Sometimes the needed drivers simply do not exist. You can either take the laptop back, if you're still within the return period and look for something that ships with Windows 7 or you can take care to do some research ahead of time to make sure that Windows 7 drivers are readily available. Of course assuming you bought an OEM copy of Windows 7, I hope you didn't activate it yet, otherwise that's going to be another fun experience for you.
