Quck Launch Icons That Shouldn't Be There

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3. I don't often reboot my computer, but today when I did a number of added icons appeared in the Quick Launch Toolbar.(QLT). This has happened previously but not every time. Some were duplicates of shortcut icons already in the QLT (e.g. IE, Chrome, Safari) but some have never been in the QLT although they are shortcut icons on the Desktop. A number of them related to various Ashampoo programs which I never have had in the QLT.
Strangely, a check of the Quick Launch folder in Explorer only shows those Quick Launch shortcuts that I specifically placed in the QLT, although I understand there are Registry entries that might put shortcuts into the QLT. Is there any way to prevent these unwanted shortcuts re-appearing in the QLT which I just have to delete on each occasion they appear?
