Strange printer-router behavior - NEED HELP
by RobertDiGi - 5/6/13 9:06 AM
I have a home-built XP desktop that is ethernet to a Netgear router. The router is ethernet to a cable modem, and wifi to 2 HP XP laptops and a HP Officejet 6500A AIO.
All works well except desktop to printer. Print jobs sent directly to the printer don't print, no error messages. They just seem to print, but there is no response from the printer.
I can print from the desktop by using the Officejet as a network printer on a laptop. (sending it by wifi to Network Printer on laptop, which then sends it by the same wifi to the same router, then from router to same printer. Can't use scan features in this mode.
All computers and the printer seem properly installed in the router.
The problem started when I upgraded the desktop. I had a Gigabyte mobo that had only 2 DIMMs. I needed more memory. I put in a MSI board, didn't work, MSI tech support said it was likely the board, take it back and get another. I did that, but the replacement was no different. The local store didn't have any sealed boards I wanted, but had an open Gigabyte that seemed OK on their test bench,
but didn't check the printer function (problem not seen yet).
Put all back together, the printer problem showed up. Tried the printer in cabled to router and wireless mode, no difference. Unable to cable printer to desktop without disconnecting wifi.
Any ideas? Please help!
