I have a Toshiba P15 Satellite Laptop that came with Windows XP on it but it has 2 issues, first the cdrom drive will not read a disc at all, second the hard drive was bad.
Tested hard drive externally it just fails over and over, so I put a spare 40 gig I had here in it but now to get windows loaded.
Using my original Windows XP Pro disc I created a bootable flashdrive using wintoflash I tried this on 2 different flash drives a 4gb sandisk and a 8gb corsair.
I also went into the bios and setup screens verified usb was first boot and enabled, but no matter what I do the laptop just boots up and i see the flashdrive blink then I get the NTLDR is missing error press cnt alt del to restart.
The drive in it was zeroed out nothing on it at all, the usb drives are showing the windows xp content on it (it appears) but I just can't get it to actually start going.
I also tried an external cdrom drive via usb, this looked as if it was going to work my windows xp disc is not scratched in anyway (original not a copy) Boot from cd prompt GREAT - but within a few mins it said there was an error as it was loading setup files that says the file pciide.sys is corrupted ;((((((((((
I know this is an old laptop not really even worth $50 but it was my dads and he passed recently so instead of chucking it (it was on his list of things to fix) I was going to give it my best to try and get it going again here.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated,
Bill
