Hp help line told me that I can not restore my PC back to factory setting past a certain date. Now I called them because I already tried to restore it and now can no longer use the computer. Hp said there is nothing that can be done. The computer was bought in 2009 and recently had a new hard drive (not hp) installed. I also bought the windows vista restore disks when I put the new hard drive in and it will not let me use them. Please help. Computer is hp pavilion elite m9500f. Hard drive was installed months ago and the computers has worked with it and the windows vista install disks.

I've never found that to be true. But there have been many issues with restoring that will cause issues so let's list them and see what you say.
1. The BIOS is not set to boot the restore media.
2. The restore media does not boot on any PC.
3. The restore media does not boot on the HP PC.

The windows restore disks came from hp specifically for this computer and have worked in the past when I installed a new hard drive.
Since you didn't reply to those items. Questions.

As it stands I read nothing more than "it doesn't work." It could be as simple as an old DVDRW drive. But such problems are good for the industry as folk give up and go buy a new PC.

Thank you for your answers.
I don't have any other computers to test the boot software on. I can only go by the fact that I have used them on this computer before.
The DVD drive worked up untill I tried to restore the computer yesterday. So I can guess that it still does.
I am not sure if the bios is set for the restore soft ware. Not sure how to check that.
Those were questions.

"Starting the recovery from recovery discs"
seems OK but given the lack of detail about the BIOS settings means you should dive in and check if the DVDRW is set to boot or not.
Is there a reason why you are not telling much?
