Ubuntu 12.04 Speedtest descrepancy

What could be the reason for such a variance in download speed reports between these machines all using the same modem and router? Is it a java problem on my netbook?

I have a netbook, running Ubuntu 12.04 -- Speedtest.net on Chrome shows ~ 3.5 mbs on wireless and ~ 4.2 mbs when using hardwire ethernet cable to router...All updates current

I have Dell Inspiron 630, running Ubuntu 11+ -- Speedtest.net on Chrome shows 13 to 14.5 mbs on wireless

The tech from my ISP has connected his windows 7 machine via ethernet cable to the router and Speedtest.net shows 14.5 mbs

ROKU on wireless using speedtest shows 13+ mbs

All are pinging the same server

You'll want to report that as some sort of bug. Here's the site for that.

But since that's a netbook, be sure no one will fault the machine's power.
