Problem with streaming videos

The sound works but there is no picture. The problem arose today after I downloaded some Windows updates. I've had no trouble streaming until today. I installed the latest version of Adobe Flash player before the installation of the updates. Re-installing Flash Player makes no difference. I suppose I could restore the computer to before the updates but they are deemed critical. Videos from the BBC website work perfectly for some reason.

I would welcome any help with this issue.

Try downloading VLC player and see if that does the trick.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Windows Media player was working fine with downloaded videos but it did not appear as an option for streaming videos from news sources.

In sheer frustration I changed my browser from Explorer to Chrome and this seems to have solved the problem.

However as a backup I have downloaded VLC and will use it if the problem arises again. One wonders if flash player is designed to work better with Chrome. When you download Flash you are given the option of changing the browser to Chrome.

I was experiencing the same issue - youtube videos worked, but other flash videos would get sound only. Go into IE Internet Options, Advanced tab, and check "use software rendering instead of GPU rendering". Save your changes and restart IE. Then try your videos again. Apparently the settings in flash player don't appear to be changing the IE settings.

I first noticed this after my son went to some game sites with my laptop... I think they turned on hardware acceleration thru IE and messed things up.

Hope this works to fix your problem. Post back and let me know.

Thank you for considering my problem and coming up with a solution.

Only the BBC website worked. CBS, you-tube and the websites of a variety newspapers produced sound but no picture.

This happened the day after I had a batch of Windows updates installed. They must have screwed up something. I had also recently downloaded the latest Flash player.

In desperation after posting my problem on this forum I changed my browser from Explorer to Chrome and amazingly everything works! I did not want Chrome but needs must. Interestingly when you download Flash Player they give you the option of installing Chrome too...
