I think I might have a virus; not sure what to do now.

When I tirn my desktop computer on (I have Windows XP), I get the black screen that says "Windows was closed unexpectedly", and I have the options like "Start Windows normally". So that's what I selected, then the black screen with the Windows flag came up next (the one you see when you first turn a 'healthy' computer on), and it won't allow me past that to log in. I don't know if it is a virus, or how I can fix it.

This finds this is not a common message. Try one of the LIVE CDs after you backup your stuff.

Backing up files

How can I back up the computer files when I can't log in to the computer? I downloaded the CD to back up, but the computer doesnt recognize that there is even a CD in the drive because I can't get past the start-up screen.

May have to be made on some other PC. And since you boot those CDs, you don't need to log onto this PC.

Booting the CD

Maybe I'm just confused. I made the CD from another computer, and put it in the computer giving me problems, and it doesn't do anything.

Some folk put the .ISO file on the CD.

But they need to create the CD from the .ISO. There are thousands of web pages about how to create the bootable CD so I'll write "IMGBURN" and stop for now.
