Stat up screen goes fuzzy

Hi guys, a few days ago my HP desktop computer started turning itself off while I was in the middle of using it. Now this morning when I turn on the computer the blue HP start up screen goes fuzzy and then the screen goes crazy and shows all different colours (links to pictures below). I have taken my computer apart and vacuumed the dust and put it back together. I have not installed anything in the last few weeks so I don't think it's a software problem. I have tried it with another screen and it does the same thing so it is not the screen.

If anyone has experienced this or can give me advice on what to try, I would appreciate it greatly.

Classic video card type failure.

The fact it needed vacuuming to get all the crud out means that the video card could have been running hot and now it looks to have failed.

If it's a discrete card, check to make sure the fan runs ok. However, its shouldn't be hot when first starting up. The last one I was asked to look at for that problem had bulging capacitors on the video card. I was able to verify a card problem by removing the card and connecting to the on board VGA output. My guess is your HP rig doesn't have that option but those images are familiar ones.

I'd say two options but you make the choice

Actually, you have three. You can get another opinion by taking it to a repair center (expect to pay a bench fee), replace the card or, if it's an old rig, get a new PC. Without make and model there's no way to guesstimate it's age. At some point replacing parts is throwing money away but you get to make that decision.
