HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I have a desk top e machine with windows basic vista.I have a HP officejet 4500, 510a. They are not communicating with each other. I have downloaded drivers software, etc..... no I dont have the cd. And it is still not working The printer is connected to the pc, but its still not working. It wants me to save everything. I click ok to save, rename it, then nothing!!!!!!! please help! Thanks ~J

when installing the printer? Most prompt you when to connect or turn on the printer. Uninstall through the control panel and start over.

I've never seen a printer asking me save and rename something. Which such vaguely described problems it's difficult to help.So the above advice (uninstall and start over, being careful to follow the installation instruction exactly) is the best one possible.

But it's possible also the printer is defective, or the USB-drivers on the PC haven't been installed after a reinstall of the OS. And in the review I see it's a wireless printer. If you try to use it wirelessly (there's no reason why you shouldn't have added a wireless card to your desktop) you enter a minefield.

It's a new printer? I see a february 2013 review. Then why don't you have the disk that came with it? HP printers are notoriously difficult to install because they come with so much software. Using the disk is much better than downloading something.
