Hello,
I have been using my PC for ages ( about 10 years or something), it was getting slower and slower, i didnt really care about that until i got fed up with that and decided to reinstall the windows hoping that will help. I did a clean reinstalation of windows xp SP3, but it didnt really help me, maybe at first 2 or 3 days it was a bit faster then earlier but later it bacame kinda the same, i understand that desktop computer with 1GB isnt something that could launch the newest programs but my computer cant even do the simpliest task without freezing and lots of lagging, not responding for half a minute or something like that. I tried lots of programs to find out whats wrong with it but i couldnt track out the cause, finally idecided to ask you guys if you could help me repair my computer. By the way i am not buying the new Pc because its not only that i want to use computer normaly, but i would also want to know what should i do to prevent from such problems happen to me later on.

By the way i am not sure if i reinstalled all my drivers correctly, and i couldnt find what kind of drivers are nessecary.

As i am not a computer pro could you please give me a link of vidoe which shows how to do that, or at least a more detailed explanation

Google, cleaning out your PC or any similar wording. Open case and blow out or dust off the "dust bunnies" everywhere. Next, as Robert offered see if re-applying heatsink compound will help. You need to get some of course and remove the cpu heatsink, clean off the old and repaste with new. Again, google for examples of replacing heatsink compound. I do suggest you apply a dab, you needn't glob it down, videoes should show that. You google, use my phasing here as a guide. I provide this link:

Understand you have a 10yr. PC, wear&tear will take it toll, so don't expect a leap in performance. You *may* have a beat-up device or component that just holding you back, all you can do swap parts to see if it will give a clue. Also, defrag your HD even after a reload of the OS. If you get online, since the reload that maybe updating itself and cause some slowing down or non0immediate response as it doing a lot in the backgrd..

As i said in my first message i dont expect my compurer to launch newest programs or games that require good PCs, but i want it to run without lags while doing simple tasks, i tried lots of programs (diafrag too) and i think repairing its inside is what i need. Thanks for reply, hope it helps

Good stuff to replace after that many years. Think of it as the million mile maintenance item.

I have cleaned my heat sink compound and replaced the thermal paste but that didnt really helped, in a way i didnt really see any differences, any comment?
