Computer help forum: stuck on screen save-Samsung 932B A Monitor

Sounds to me like you are saying the computer turns on but gets no further than the vendor screen on the monitor.

"DELL" screen is not a screen saver.

It is the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) screen presented used by Dell when the computer first starts up and is waiting for the operating system to take over and start running. What you see is the Dell screen with the BIOS running hidden behind it.

Has nothing to do with the monitor.

A monitor is a human interactive device we use to interact with the computer, just as we use a keyboard or a mouse to control it.

Your computer is not starting Windows for whatever reason.

Please do tell us what happened just before you had this problem.

I dunno. Thanks for responding. My geek neighbor seems to think it is the key board because no keys seem to cause any reaction. I had been pushing the hard drive button for bout three seconds to turn it off so I could sleep at night. And yes the screen says BIOS Revision 1.0.11 with f-2 Setup and f-12 Boot Menu displayed. But no action. It's a bit trying for me since I am from the artistic gen. The Hard Drive is a Dell, the monitor is a Samsung, and the key board is a Kensington. Kind of a Frankenstein setup. Don out.

So either it's stuck, or it finds something wrong and waits for you to press f2 to correct it. I suppose you did try F2 and F12; that should be the only keys that work here. If they don't it could be the keyboard indeed. But that's so easy to test by using another keyboard that you don't even need a geek neighbor to do that, just a neigbor (or somebody else) with a keyboard that you can use to try. A spare keyboard you have yourself would be fine also, of course.

Please tell the results of that simple diagnostic.

Dear friend, I live in the hood. (s-e San Diego) finding another key board is near impossible here. Ha-ha! But yes that will be my next try at upping this thing. Patching a surfboard for my boss' son. And thank you ever so much. Don out.

Keyboards are all over at the usual places including the thrift stores which is your on the cheap source.
