Get that pac and try it. If the problem returns, I strongly urge you to review your whole install listing, remove, delete and de-install all pgms. and seldom used ones. Then, defrag your "C" drive or partition. if you haven't yet, boot into safe mode and run CHKDSK /R or /F, or use the repair option and see if it finds any problem. Also, the 6600 is getting old it maybe pushing its limits compared to newer cards, it's just showing it's age not only in h/w but just accepting the latest s/w drivers. I exclude any other fault or issue.
Yeah, I have the 6600 and experienced the same problem. Sorry, fiddling here and there and doing the above seemed to correct it.
