According to the link you provided, this PC came with 256 MB of RAM, but I didn't see the max amount. If you're talking about upgrading to a later version of Windows, you'll need 2 GB or more, and I don't know if that old PC could handle that much. You're dealing with an 8 or 9 year old computer, so any time you're thinking about upgrading, I'd say it's time to invest a few hundred bucks on a new computer. In the mean time I hope you have a good antivirus program and are keeping it up to date. I imagine you're aware that MS is pulling the plug on XP support at the end of this year.

I just did a quick look at your specs max memory is 2 gigs not much in todays standards, but having said that memory would probably be my 1st choice 2 gigs will cost about $40. The next will be spendy...you might consider a ssd thats a solid state drive no moving parts all memory accessed from memory chips almost instantaneous. Having said that there is a fair level of difficulty to this upgarde. If its done right it will blow your mind the difference...(IF ITS DONE RIGHT) so if you decide to do it get help...good help

Do they make IDE SSDs? He'd need an expansion card for SATA support, and this PC has no free slots. And on an 8-9 year computer? Sorry but it sure wouldn't be something I'd want to try.
